This guide will give you an overview of how to get started in the administrator interface with Poker-Leaderboard.
The first thing you should do is create your season. This is the time span in which you are going to track points for. Season A season is the series of tournaments grouped together as far as points are concerned. Seasons are typically a set period of times or certain # tournaments. Name your season something descriptive to your league or simply use a number. Players will see your season name and will select it when they are looking at the leaderboard. One of our first clients, Poker Affiliate World (PAW), used season name “PAW Aussie Millions” when they put together a 5 week competition giving away a trip to Australia and a seat into the Aussie Millions Poker Tournament. This season name is descriptive and their league players knew instinctively when looking at the leaderboard to select the correct season name. Consider this as a good example of a season name. The next step is to set up your venues. Venues are where you are playing poker at. Venues Venues are the establishments / locations where the tournaments take place. Give your venue a number(optional) and a name a Name (not optional). For example, the Atlanta Poker Club plays at different sports bars and restaurants so they name their venues the name of the establishment they are playing at, such as “Jeffreys” or “SoCo”. Finish a tournament at Jeffreys and those results get input under venue, Jeffreys. The next step is to create a scoring system for yourself (unless you want to use the default blank scores that you enter each time yourself) Scoring Systems Scoring systems are pre-set formulas for awarding points to your league. If you know that you want to have 20 players earn points and you want to give 1st place 500 points and 20th place 50 points you can create a scoring system that will assign points to the top 20 based on your requirements. Scoring systems are optional, as you have the ability to manually add points while entering tournament results. If you choose to use a scoring system, click on ‘scoring systems’. Name your scoring system. The name does not really matter as long as you know what it is. Players will not see the name of the scoring system on the leaderboard, but it is available to administrators you in a drop down box when inputting results. Using a scoring system makes sure that you automatically assign the correct number of points to each position. You can assign a total number of positions to earn points and a set # of points for each position, or you can set a total point value broken down with each position earning a certain % of points. Creating a scoring system is a time saver if you are putting in points often. Now we will move forward to entering tournaments / tournament results. Please note that it is not necessary to create members first. Tournaments / Entering Results Click on Tournament -> "New Tournament" unless you need to edit a previous event. To edit, use the filters on the page to find the event you are looking for and click edit. After clicking New Tournament, select the season and the venue from the drop down boxes. Next select the date, and for consistency sake consider clicking the ‘select’ button and then clicking the date of the event from the calendar provided. Tournament name is optional. If the name is left blank the tournament name will be the date but if a name is used it will be shown when a player clicks the ‘details’ button when looking at the score board. Click the ‘players’ tab (prior to saving) Input your total number of players, even if this isn’t relevant to your event. Type in 100 if it doesn’t matter. Select your scoring system (optional). This will fill in each positions finishing points. Enter your results - type in the players name. Typically names will pop open in a drop down box where you can select the players name if they have earned points previously. Take note to correctly spell and enter their name as the next time that player earns points the name will pre-load in the type in field. This will limit typos and spelling errors. If you are using a manual point system, just type in the persons name, click or tab over to the ‘points’ column and type in their points earned. You can always overwrite the pre-filled in points column. When finished entering results, hit save. You can edit your tournaments if you made a mistake by clicking on the ‘tournaments’ tab and sorting to find the tournament you are looking for as well as delete a tournament if necessary. Events An poker leaderboard events tutorial is available in a different thread because it is still in beta. Regions (only available for paid leagues). Regions are optional and designed for larger leagues that have a desire to break down their league into smaller and smaller groups. Each region will have it’s own scoreboard tallied for the combined sub-regions beneath it For example, we will create a National League broken down into 4 major regions, North, South, East, and West, and each state assigned to a one of the major regions. To create this, click on “Regions” Tab and then click on, “National League”. The “Edit Region” page opens up – type in “North” and hit save. Repeat this process by clicking on “National League” and typing in “South” / “East” and “West”. You now have created your league with 4 top level regions. These 4 top level regions will have points races independent of one another for players within their region, as well as a combined leaderboard in the overall league leaderboard. Now we will click on each top level region (North) and THEN clicking “add new sub region.” – Be sure you click on “add new sub region” or you will change the name of your top level league (which you can change back). After clicking on “add new sub region” the “Edit Region” page opens up and we type in “New York” (for example). If you now go back and look at the ‘regions’ tab. New York will be listed down the tree under the “North” region. Once you have your region broke down as far as you want it to go, you can add venues to the lowest rung on the league structure and the points will roll up through their assigned region designations all the way from venue specific up through overall league score. For example, any results from New York’s “Carnegie Deli” will tally on their own venue leaderboard, they will roll up to the “New York” regional board, they will roll up to the “North” top level regional board and they will roll up to the “National” overall leaderboard. Venues may only be assigned to one region or sub-region. You cannot have a venue that scores points in the northern region and the southern region at the same time. More Guides & Tutorials.
