Default So frustrating

I don't know how you guys do it blindguy/bearw8....

Entered a big field tourney. I don't want to compare the stakes, it's not even close to huge money, but rather the grind and coming up short.

$6.00+.50 KO tourney. 1170 players. I'm playing really well, (I mean I feel like it), catching good hands with good timing, 3 betting more preflop in BvB or button vs. B scenarios. Not too tight, but not hyper-aggresive donk either. Exploit the bubbles, get a few KO's, generally feeling good.

Gets down to 50 or so players, I'm smelling the final table, but not looking to far ahead. I have a right-around tourney average stack, (about 23 BB's.) I havent shown down a lot of pre raises. I open a pot 2nd position with QQ for 3.5 bb's(antes are in play also). Folds to button who politely shoves all in. I have him covered by a little, but not enough to make the next button rotation. Of course I call, and he has 55. Well, he gets the set, I'm severely crippled, game over next hand.

46th place. 46th effin place in a 1170 field. Sickened me, pays $15 and change and I got a few KO's. All that time and effort, mentally ravaged me to be playing so good and running so well, then that happens.

So frustrating. I can't imagine how you guys feel when it's an even bigger field with a lot more at stake. But damn, this thing paid almost $1200.00 bucks to win for a 6.50 buy-in. Sick ROI.

I agree, sincerely. Tournament poker taxes me like nothing else. I can lose a hand playing $$ games and sure it stings a bit but when things like the above happen in tournaments it seriously bothers me to an unhealthy point, lol.

Something like the above or when you are playing well and make a tough decision correctly and then get horrifically sucked out on, for your tournament life (or near it) and it's over... man so frustrating.

Default How to poorly slow play Aces

I was over confident on the flop and I lead out with a small bet to disguise my hand. Became a little concerned on the turn, but I knew the button would bet (based on his play for the first 30 minutes) so the plan was to CRAI. It played out just as I thought. As soon as the river hit I knew I was toast.
I have thought about this for about 5 minutes now. I think I get called by the AK on the button even if I shove pre flop or on the flop. I guess it was just a cooler.

You are probably right. The AK would have called your shove pre-flop, and likely on the flop since he called the push where he did. Getting 4 - outed definitely stings.

jeremiah - At that point in a tourny, players will push with just about anything. It almost reminds me of the players who play loose at the begining of the these tournys. It comes down to "2X or go home time". Nobody wants to blind down waiting for a premium hand.

Duba - At my favorite poker site, these are called "Set up hands" The players believe that these are deliberate acts by the site to create action. The 2 outers and the 4 to the straight/flush dominated hands.

I have to agree, the hardest part of this game by far is getting over the super bad beats for most or all of your chips. You want the action most of the time, just this time you got unlucky. Unlucky s u c k s.
