Default For all of you...

After what feels like a lifetime of playing hold-em with all of you in free roll events, I must give them up. I feel an obiligation to all of you for helping develop this talent and for all of the support and friendship that I have recieved. I consider myself rich to have known and played poker with all of you. I love and care about APC greatly, I consider it my home and it is going to be hard. But, to get better at the game I think I must play for real and free rolls or low limit poker is not going to help me anymore. I will try to stop in on some of the events when I can and I hope this doesn't make anyone think I'm a wuss and that all I want for any of us is the best. Good luck guys and gals I'll see you in the series.

If you leave, how the rest of us have any idea when we are committing some grave social, poker faux pas such as checking in the big blind with a bare Ace when someone else is trying to slow play AA and hitting the boat to bust their set? Etc.. Etc...

I know you never respond to the responses to your threads, but why would you have to give up APC to get better? Why not play both? I’ve never played tournaments with buy-ins over $100, but the competition is no better than Friday nights at SoCo, IMO.

Jay... I've always enjoyed playing with you and am sorry that you feel like you need to stop playing the "freerolls".

While I believe there is plenty to be learned from playing higher stakes tournaments, I also believe there is plenty to be learned at the APC tournaments. I've played tournaments and money games in Vegas, Biloixi, California, St.Louis, and Minnesota. I can tell you that the APC does a good job of representing the spectrum of players you will see anywhere you go. Recognizing the strong players versus the weak players and the calling stations is a huge part of no-limit poker. APC tournaments provide an excellent opportunity to refine and practice those skills everyday.

Just my $0.02.

See ya around,
Chad

Jay.....I for one, hate to see someone like you walk away.
You have always been one of the great personalities that makes the club special.

But, I too, have walked away from a "Home" game that I played at for over 15 years.
After just a few APC tournys, I could not sit down and play all of the "Draw" games that are played at that table. Even when I go back for a token visit, I quickly understand why I stopped coming.

So, I believe your success at Tunica has given you a new perspective about playing "Free-roll" tournys.

Never playing at higher stakes "Real" money tourny, I may not have insight on your new perspective. But, I believe, as JTD said, that "real money" tournys have crazy callers too. Maybe not as many, but "Free-rolls" teach you how to find and play against thses kinds of players. We just have to live with the fact that there will be a lot of these "land mines", early, in a free-roll tourny. Surviving and advancing and getting past these players early and even discovering your sitting with one at a final table would be good experience you can gain from a free-roll that could help your play at a real money tourny.

It isn't what life hands you that makes you.
What makes you is how you handle what life hands you.

I can't believe so many of you are falling for this obvious and apparently successful attempt at getting praise and adulation heaped on out of the blue. He has year-end, holiday, pre/post birthday, postpartum, Winter weather depression. He's not going anywhere. He will disappear for a while, take a dip in his pity pool, then make a triumphant, Gary Hall-esque, return for another round of back patting and ego fluffing.

Or maybe I'm wrong. Have a nice life Jay
