Director Training Course Objectives

Director Training is written from the perspective of a tournament director seeking to run a full-service, casino-style poker tournament* with dealers at every table. For those of you looking to operate ‘self deal’ events, this course has many special notes, tips, tricks and and things to consider noted at the bottom of relevent pages. Here is a rundown of the detailed information contained in each chapter of Director Training *All situations in this course assume one dealer and ten players per table, unless otherwise noted.

Chapter 1

Director Training Introduction

Chapter 1 is an overview of the course, highlighting what you should expect as you progress through the training. You are currently reading the introductory chapter.

Chapter 2 – Supplies and Equipment
Chapter 2 offers an in-depth look at the supplies and epuipment needed to run a poker tournament. We provide detailed information on which products will work best for your situation. This chapter also contains tournament forms and blind schedules.

Chapter 3 – Pre-Tournament
Chapter 3 takes you through the process of preparing your tournament. You’ll learn how to set everything up, right up to where you announce ‘shuffle up and deal.’ This section includes registration, seating strategy, and starting requirements.

Chapter 4 – During-Tournament
Chapter 4 covers the execution and operation of a tournament from the tournament director’s perspective. You’ll learn how to manage the tournament, how to move players and balance tables, manage blinds, execute chip races and much more. This section walks you through the entire tournament, from first hand to last.

Chapter 5 – Post-Tournament
Chapter 5 covers all the tasks you need to perform once your tournament is over. Awarding prizes, cleaning up and post-tourney administrator details are explained.

Chapter 6 – Directing Process
Chapter 6 summarizes the previous three chapters and combines them into a single, easy-to-follow, step-by-step system of what to do and when to do it. It’s your soup-to-nuts “Cliff’s Notes” of the process.

Chapter 7 – Employment
Chapter 7 is dedicated to helping you find employment as a poker director. The chapter provides direction on what types of jobs are available, and what it takes to get those jobs.

Chapter 8 – Resources
Chapter 8 provides quality resources, websites and forums we recommend for you to look at during your learning process. These resources will further your education into poker-tournament directing and many of the forums are great secondary resources, places to go for answers to those crazy, off-the-wall situations.

Chapter 9 offers food for thought, about your future expectations as a poker tournament director.
