First, don’t be intimidated by a craps table. The layout alone has been known to dissuade aspiring players from participating. But, once you learn craps rules, you’ll discover that it’s a relatively simple game. What’s more, if you stick to a simple betting style, you’ll enjoy some of the best odds in a casino or gaming website. Below, I’ll explain the basics of craps along with the bets you should limit yourself to in the beginning.[geocode id=5]

The Craps Table
The first thing you’ll notice about the table layout is that one side is a mirror of the other. The numbers (or, points), field, pass-line, and come are duplicated. For now, ignore most of the bets in the middle of the table. Even casino dealers recommend that novices start with the other bets and explore the middle after they have some experience.
Basic Rules For Real Money Craps
Craps is not played roll by roll. It is played in rounds. The first roll of each round is called the Come Out roll, which, depending on the number you roll, may end the round. For example, a 7 or 11 on the Come Out roll pays pass line bets 1:1.
A pass line bet is the simplest bet you can make in real money craps. You’ll see most players putting bets on the pass line prior to each round’s Come Out roll. If you hit a 2, 3, or 12 on the Come Out, your pass line bet loses. Any other number (excluding 7 or 11) becomes the Point.
Once the Point is rolled, your goal is to roll it again before you roll a 7. If you roll a 7 before shooting the Point, you will lose your pass line bets, Number bets (described below), and any Odds you have bet.
The Odds are a second wager you can make on the Point. It “backs up” your pass line bet, but offers a higher pay out if the Point is rolled. While a pass line bet pays 1:1, the Odds pay out as follows:
4 or 10 pays out 2:1
5 or 9 pays out 3:2
6 or 8 pays out 6:5
You can also make Number Bets, which are additional wagers on 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10. Here, you hope to roll one of these numbers before shooting a 7. If you hit your Point before rolling your Number Bets, your pass line bet and Odds are paid out, your other bets are returned, and a new round begins.
Another popular bet is the Come bet. This wager works in the same manner as the pass line bet. The difference is that you can make it at any point during a round (a pass line bet can only be made at the beginning of a round). You can lay Odds on the Come bet in the same way you would for a pass line bet.
Good And Bad Bets On Craps
“Good” bets in craps are those we have described above. The pass line bet has a low house edge of 1.41% while the Odds bet has no house edge. The Come bet also has a 1.41% edge since it works similarly to the pass line bet.
Some Number Bets are better than others. Specifically, the house edge on the 6 and 8 are lower than the edges for the 4, 5, 9, and 10. The following is a breakdown of the Number Bets along with their respective edges:
4 – 6.67%
5 – 4.00%
6 – 1.52%
8 – 1.52%
9 – 4.00%
10 – 6.67%
“Bad” bets include every other wager on the craps table. Here, we refer to hard ways, proposition bets, field bets, and Big 6 and Big 8 bets. All of them are long shots, and carry high house edges. We didn’t mention them in the rules because you should avoid them until you’re familiar with the “good” bets. Even then, think twice before making them.
Craps Real Money
Real money craps continues to be one of the most popular games at land-based and online casinos. That said, those who have never played the game are often overwhelmed by it, especially when they visit land-based casinos. The large board, variety of bets, and fast pace can seem daunting to beginners.
