Babes World Poker Tour Report on the Borgata
Poker Open Kick
Ass Play
Early in the tournament there was an interesting
hand between the two big stacks at the table.
It was Carlos, the 2001 World Poker Champion
vs. David Oppenheim, the guy who plays in
the biggest cash games in LA. Both of these
guys are super aggressive and solid players.
Hole Cards: David 4
4
| Carlos J
9
The flop comes paired with 8 8 3 and misses
both players. Carlos checks and David bets
out 100K…this is after David re-raises
pre-flop with his pocket 4’s. Carlos
executes a check raise and re-raises, but
only raises it the bare minimum. Now, if you
are going to bluff at a pot most people would
think that you would bet more than the minimum
to bluff. He tries to ‘entice’
a call by betting the minimum. Knowing that
David would pick up on this enticement and
ponder the possibility of being slow played
by a hand like A 8 .
Carlos put the fear in his mind. David went
into the tank and decided to lay it down.
Carlos flips over the bluff. KickAss Play!
Dude, what were you thinking?!?
Bonehead Play
It
starts with a four way pot as follows:
Carlos calls with Q
T
David calls with A
7
- button
Randy calls with J
4
- small
Charlie calls with Q
8
- big
Randy is holding a wonderful hand from the
small blind and I guess he figures he can
limp into a multi-way pot and maybe get lucky
on the flop. Oh my god, that’s exactly
what happens. The flop comes J
J
7 .
What does our friend, who was obviously picked
on in elementary school with a last name like
Burger, do? First…he
looks at his cards again to see what he has,
not once, not twice but 3 times. Randy, take
your hands off of your cards. A little excited
are ya? Second...he
doesn’t check or bet a small amount
to scare out any flush draw. Third...he
goes all-In for 233K. I’ve never seen
the field fold faster. "They flew out
of this hand," says Vince Van Patten
Well, at least you won. Letter
to Randy...
Dear Randy,
Next time you may want to trap at least 1
person and extract as much value out of that
hand as possible. You hit your miracle flop
and you totally blew it. What were you doing
going all in from 1st position after you hit
a KickAss flop and you had 3 people left to
act behind you? "I was trying
to make KAP's Bonehead Play," says Randy.
Well you got it. Hey, still not bad though,
you won your seat at the tournament playing
a $12 online satellite tournament and came
away with $41,125.
Best of luck in the future.
Sincerely,
KAP
P.S. There's no crying in Poker!

WPT Tips Maintain your
composure: "I think a lot
of poker players, in their own mind, consider
themselves the best poker player. I think
it comes down to who's the best is who maintains
a steady composure and doesn't allow themselves
to fall off their A game." - Ted
Forrest Observe you opponents:
"You just have to keep playing and
observing you opponents and remember whoever
is in the pot with you is a certain type of
player. And then you remember the results
of what happened and you play accordingly.
I think that's the whole secret to poker."

Moves
BLUFF THE POT - Carlos K
J
is in a dominating position against Noli J
8 .
Noli comes out and raises to $75,000, Carlos
immediately calls to see the flop. The flop
comes A
7
7
which obviously misses both players. Noli
bets out 100K which Carlos quickly calls.
The Turn brings K
and Carlos couldn’t be happier…until
Noli goes all in for 317K. The man from Madrid
can’t believe he has just been put to
the test with K/J. Noli hasn’t been
involved with too many hands up to this point
and the other players certainly respect his
play. Carlos lays it down and Noli shows the
bluff. THE ART OF POKER
- After 4 players before him fold, Carlos
limps in with A
3 ,
costing him $4000. David is holding the worst
possible starting hand of 7
2
(a.k.a. The Hammer), but decides to raise
it to $33,000. Carlos immediately re-raises
to $75,000 and David ponders his ill-timed
decision. He sheepishly asks, "how much
is it?"
Watching from home, we knew there wasn't a
snowballs chance in he|| that David was going
to call this bet, and Carlos, hearing the
desparation in David's voice, knows it too
So Carlos decides to have a little fun. He
says, "if you fold I'll show!" David
immediately announces, "I fold".
Carlos turns over his 3, but mucks the Ace.
He points to the three..."see, I tell
you I show."
