Gooch Writes: Why do I see TV advertisements
advertising the ".net" version
of there poker rooms... everyone knows about
.com, plus I read that the poker rooms can't
advertise via google and yahoo.
KAP: Good question Gooch, and to
our best understanding the government has
stepped in and put the pressure on companies
such as Google and Yahoo to stop accepting
advertising from Online Casinos and Poker
Rooms… The government says that gambling
is illegal and they are trying to stop us
from playing poker online. Good luck. They
can’t shut the casino’s down
because they are based in other countries,
and there was a recent WTO ruling that didn’t
fare well for the U.S. Gov’t in it’s
fight to curb online gambling. So to get
around it, poker rooms advertise their brand
and stick the .net at the end of the name,
instead of the .com. For example, check
out the example from "Party
Poker.net"
First of all, although many consider Poker
gambling, it is totally different from playing
a slot machine, roulette, craps, and even
blackjack… The house could care less
who wins or looses pots, as long as pots
are being won and lost the house is happy.
Poker is not played against the house, it
is played against one another. Most casino
games require little skill. Any monkey can
put a quarter into a slot machine and pull
the lever… Poker is a game of skill
and many would argue that it is even more
than a game, it is a sport… I personally
agree. This will be an interesting topic
to watch closely over the next few months
as these rulings and actions coming down
can have a direct impact on all of our lives.
Thanks and we'll see you at the tables!
