Tom from New York Writes:
I’m an avid fan of the world
poker tour and the World Series of Poker
and I am just starting to try and learn
the game. I was hoping you could recommend
a couple of books to help me improve my
game. I play mostly lower limit holdem with
a mix of live and online play.
Thanks,
Tom,

Feedback: Tom, thanks
for the question. Personally, I think the
book that has most helped my game is Lee
Jones winning low limit holdem. This is
an excellent book that is easy to read,
gives lots of examples, end of chapter reviews
(with questions) and plainly and clearly
gives us a solid basic understanding of
some strategies to win at the lower stakes.
If everyone played low limit holdem like
those who read and study this book will
play low limit holdem, it would be a much
more difficult game to beat. The book shows
you how to play tight and aggressively,
gives you ideas of when you should raise
and why you should or shouldn’t do
a certain action. If you haven’t read
this book yet, it is highly recommended.
You can click on our links and pick it up
through Amazon.com. You’ll reap benefits
from this minimal investment for the rest
of your poker career.
Another good book that all poker players
should read is Theory of Poker by Sklansky.
This book is one of the most respected books
on the market and gives insight into the
though processes and underlying principles
of playing winning poker.
Along with the books, be sure and take
a quick read through our TexasHoldEm 101
section, as it gives a few ideas and concepts
to think about when playing holdem. On our
main page we link the most current strategy
articles from some of the greatest minds
of the poker world. Read them, they are
a wealth of information.
Thanks and we'll see you at the tables!
