“I’ve been playing poker online
for just about 6 months and I’ve done
fairly well. I’ve been playing at
Pacific
Poker mostly, and have managed to slowly
grow my bankroll from an initial $100 buy
in to just over $604 in that six month span.
The competition there seems weaker than
what I found at some of the other sites.
Anyway, on to my point…I’m itching
to try to play some “live” poker.
Other than some home games with some friends,
I’ve never played poker in a casino
setting. Can you recommend any tips or things
to watch out for when going to play live?
By the way, the site looks schweet. Yeah
c’mon!
Feedback: Russ, nice to
hear you’ve grown that bankroll! Sounds
like you’ve been playing steady poker.
Good for you. Which sites have you played
at online and which do you think has the
strongest competition? Just curious really,
we think that Bodog
Poker probably has some of the weakest
players out there. Lots of them ‘wander’
into the poker room from the online casino.
Here fishy fishy.
Yeah, playing live poker is a different
animal than playing online. There is so
much more to take into consideration. You’ve
got to be aware of your physical tells in
live poker. If you are playing against someone
who is adept at reading people by their
actions as well as their bets, you might
be in trouble. You also need to work on
your people reading skills. Your online
poker playing provides an excellent base
to build your live game off of, but there
are different skills needed to excel in
live poker. The truth of the matter is that
the only real way to improve your live game
is to simply play live poker and always
keep thinking. An excellent practice to
begin is to try to read your opponents when
you have already folded your hand. Try and
guess the EXACT two hole cards that the
players in the hand have. If there are lots
of players, pick one or two players and
try to guess their hole cards. The more
you practice this, the better you will get…try
and pick up on tells, see patterns, see
mistakes…
I’ll do a little site pimpage here,
check out our Casino
Poker Room 1st Timers Guide. It gives
you a quick idea of what to expect the first
time you step foot into a poker room.
Thanks and we'll see you at the tables!
