Doesn't sound like Mautsow wants to spit out $700K! Image from mike-matusow.net
The war between potential Full Tilt suitor Groupe Bernard Tapie and a handful of high-stakes pros who received large, casual loans from the online site continues to develop. On Wednesday, pokerupdate.com published a quote from GBT lawyer Behn Dayamin asserting the exact amount that former FTP pro Mike Matusow allegedly owes the FTP coffers:
“Nearly $700K. Mr. Matusow has not responded to our attempts to reach him to discuss the matter.”
The problem is that this statement directly contradicts a Tweet by Matusow a day or two back, after the inclusion of him among six players who not only owe Full Tilt a large amount of money, but have been reticent, according to GBT’s Dayamin, to discuss the matter. Here’s what Matusow wrote:
Well, well, well. The smart money does not bet Matusow, in case you were in doubt. The likeliest explanation I can think of is that Matusow isn’t lying, but somehow believes his monthly compensation deal with Full Tilt effect remained in effect post-Black Friday, and that all the imaginary checks he should have received in the meantime should be counted against his debt. Anyone have a better guess? Feel free to shoot it into the comments.
The above might be my opinion only, but I base it off the numerous paralogical explanations I’ve seen Matusow serve up in situations over the years. Not that it’s likely to matter much in this situation. The general rumor mill has Matusow more or less busto at this moment in time, and the odds that he really has $700,000 to ship GBT’s way are close to nil. If getting $700,000 from Mikey is a necessity to getting the deal done, the deal ain’t gonna get done. Bank on that one, too.
